I Made a Routine in Littlebird to Help Discover New Post-Rock Music.

I set it to run once a week. we will see what I can discover. This week’s suggestions:

Here are three fantastic international post-rock and post-metal discoveries that perfectly share the heavy, driving, and cinematic qualities of bands like Caspian, Russian Circles, and We Lost the Sea:

1. Oh Hiroshima (Sweden)

Their Sound: They hit that brilliant sweet spot between the raw, melancholic power of pg.lost and the emotional crests of MONO. Their sound skews slightly heavier than standard post-rock and occasionally weaves deeply textured, haunting vocals into their massive, driving crescendos – a rarity for the genre that they execute flawlessly.

Where to Start: Check out their 2019 album Oscillation. The standout track to kick things off is “Darkroom Aesthetics”.

2. Lost in Kiev (France)

Their Sound: An immensely cinematic, electronica-infused post-rock/post-metal hybrid. They utilize spoken-word samples and massive walls of sound to build driving narrative arcs. If you appreciate the storytelling approach of We Lost the Sea paired with the heavy atmospherics of God is an Astronaut, this band will instantly click for you.

Where to Start: Their 2022 album Rupture is phenomenal. Start with the track “Prison of Mind”.

3. Toundra (Spain)

Their Sound: Hailing from Madrid, Toundra delivers massive, instrumental post-metal that occasionally borders on progressive rock. Their high-energy, riff-centric approach is heavily reminiscent of Pelican and Russian Circles, but they carve out their own identity by seamlessly weaving acoustic guitars and string arrangements into their heaviness.

Where to Start: Dive into their album Hex (2022). The sprawling, three-part epic “El Odio” (starting with Part I) is an absolute masterclass in building tension.

Time to listen!
